1. What is the total weight of the assembled unit?

   The total weight of the assembled unit is approximately 150 to 175 lbs, excluding the bench, which adds an additional weight of around 75 lbs. This combined weight provides a sturdy foundation for various applications.

2. What is the purpose of the hole in the base?

   The hole in the base is specifically designed for slug exit, facilitating the efficient removal of material during operations. A solid component known as a quick change die block, typically 1.25 inches thick and measuring 6.5 inches wide by 6 inches long, is positioned atop the base. This die block offers a stable, flat surface for the die set to rest upon and is secured in place by a rear stopper and set screws located along the side C-frame between the front legs.

3. How is a die set attached to the Porta Press frame?

   The Porta Press utilizes a quick change die block system that simplifies the attachment process of the die set. The bottom plate, precision-machined to a thickness of 1.25 inches, is designed to slide easily in and out of the center of the press, which eliminates the need for alignment with the die set during subsequent operations.

   During initial setup, the toolmaker aligns the die set and then drills and taps holes through the bottom of the die set into the quick-change die block. Once this attachment is established, the entire assembly can be withdrawn from the press by simply releasing the side set screws and pulling the assembly out from the front. This design ensures that the assembly can be returned to its original position without any further alignment, enhancing operational efficiency and minimizing downtime.
