The total weight of the fully assembled unit is approximately 150 to 175 lbs (excluding the bench), while the optional heavy-duty bench adds an additional 75 lbs for a total stationary setup.
The hole in the base is specifically designed for slug exit, facilitating the efficient removal of waste material during punching operations.
A precision-machined quick change die block (1.25" thick) sits atop this base, providing a stable surface for the die set. It is held securely by a rear stopper and industrial set screws, ensuring perfect alignment over the exit hole.
The Porta Press utilizes a quick-change die block system that simplifies the setup process. The bottom plate is designed to slide easily in and out of the press center, which eliminates the need for manual alignment during every job change.
Once the initial toolmaker alignment is set and the die set is tapped into the block, the entire assembly can be withdrawn by simply releasing the side set screws. This allows you to return to the original position without further alignment, maximizing uptime.
